I challenged myself to watch as many new films as I could this year, though I've only managed 28 so far my favourite out of all of them has been Dark Star. It's a 70's sci-fi comedy B movie directed by John Carpenter (who went on to direct The Thing (1982), among other famous movies.) It's about a small crew of astronauts in charge of destroying rogue planets and clearing the way for space colonisation. They destroy the planets by means of artificially intelligent bombs that can talk and hold conversations with the crew. The crew themselves are a bit stir crazy, having been stuck with each other on the mission over 20 years. My favourite character was a tie between the childish and grumpy Pinback, and the daydreamy Talby. I just like me some weird lonely guys in space... it's like he made this movie for me!!
Dark Star is a cult film, but I've not seen any fanworks or indeed fans of it yet. *sits at window with binoculars*
